Size & Fit Guide
Children’s sizing is not always straightforward.
Different brands, countries and eras can size the same age very differently, so we consider more than the number on the label when assessing each piece.
Every Story Found listing includes the garment’s original label size, where available, along with our Size & Fit notes to help you choose.
How we assess fit
We look at the overall proportions of each garment, including its length, width, shape and intended fit.
Where a piece runs noticeably small or large, or where the label size does not reflect how we believe it will fit, we will note this in the listing.
You may see fit notes such as:
- Runs small. Best suited to approximately 3–4 years.
- Runs large. Best suited to approximately 8–10 years.
- Relaxed fit.
- Cropped fit.
These notes are intended as a guide rather than an exact indication of how a garment will fit every child.
Shop by size
Story Found caters for children aged 2–12 years.
Our shop by size ranges are:
- 2–3Y
- 4–5Y
- 6–7Y
- 8–9Y
- 10–11Y
- 12Y
These ranges are designed to make browsing easier and may differ from the original size printed on the garment label.
Label sizes
We keep the original label size in each product listing wherever possible.
Depending on the piece, this may be shown as an age, numerical size or international size.
Vintage and international garments can be particularly inconsistent, so we use the label as one part of the sizing information rather than relying on it alone.
If a garment has no readable size label, we will base our Size & Fit guidance on the garment itself.
Vintage and older pieces
Older children’s clothing can fit differently from contemporary sizing.
A vintage garment labelled for a particular age may be shorter, narrower or differently proportioned than a modern garment with the same label size.
We take this into account when assigning our shop by size range and writing the Size & Fit notes.
